The clouds and the sun are waging a battle this morning, but it looks like the sun is calling in the cavalry, so we expect blue skies by this afternoon. I am sitting with a group of kids who are learning about sharks, while others are behind me practicing paddling before they get into their kayaks. Sometimes we call Thursday 'Sleepy Day'. The kids are a bit tired and mellow, but as happy as ever.

Any minute now, the shark group will head to the tank, where they will pet rays and leopard sharks. Again, this may be a once-in-a-lifetimer.

We wish we could post more pictures, but as you may have already heard, the wi-fi is incredibly slow at camp. Perhaps this evening we will wait it out and get more loaded.

Mr. Brooks has a water day all day today, but he sends his regards. Tonight is our bonfire at the beach. We will serve s'mores while our kiddos sing songs, watch instructore skits, and perform their own. Most of them will be lamenting the fcat that tomorrow we head back to te mainland. No offense to all of our wonderful parents, but we have heard several requests that we stay at least one more week!

On a serious note, the growth your children are all making is astounding. In a few short days, we have watched them become more responsible and independent. Please enjoy this newfound maturity when your children return home and nuture it by expecting al lot from them.

Thank you for letting your children spread their wings.

Fondly,
Mrs. G

P.S. A bald eagle just flew overhead. :)

Hamburgers (both vegetarian and beef) hot off the grill while steps away from the sand? That was part of our fantastic day. It all began with either fun at the rock climbing wall or a hike up the mountain behind camp. Groups switched in the afternoon so no one missed a single activity. It was not an entirely dry day because about 80% of the kids chose to go on the night snorkel tonight. The rest hiked again and viewed the stars as they learned interesting facts and listened to myths and legends. No complaints from anyone because everyone had a blast! At this moment, hikers are settling into bed and snorkelers are enjoying a cup of hot cocoa while they dry off. As you might imagine, we expect everyone to be sound asleep very soon. Tomorrow is another busy day. Labs are on the schedule for the morning and all of us will snorkel in the afternoon. The predicted temperature of 70 degrees promises a perfect, last water experience. Since visibility has been so good, out annual fish counnt will be productive. When we return to school, we have the kids compare this year's data with years past. It is time to go and tuck a whole bunch of kids into bed! More to come............ Mrs. G

Wednesday, March 12, 2014 In the Afternoon

Spectacular. . . it is the best adjective to describe the day.  We've flipped today - groups one through four hiked this morning and are on the climbing wall now while groups five through seven hike as they did the climbing wall this morning.  All of us need to burn the calories from today's burger lunch on the beach.  Seventy-istudents have chosen to dive tonight, and they are looking forward to it.  With the visibility as good as it is, they should have a memorable dive.

Mr. Brooks

It is CIMI day three and so far i am having a blast! There are so many cool labs and marine mammals that are  just plain spectacular! Right now, we are going rock climbing and it is so much fun! Yesterday, we went snorkeling and saw 19 leopard sharks! It was amazing! We also swam through several kelp forests and saw five or six garibaldi fish!I also love sleeping with all of my friends! I would definently go back to CIMI if i ever got the chance to again.e saw

I really like it in the dorms because it is just like you're having a sleep over at your house or a friend's house.  The people make you feel as if you're at home.  You get to do a lot of fun things and if you don't feel like doing something or can't do something, then you don't have to do it.

Maya

Today we went on a hike a cool hike. We went on one of the dirt trails. We played games and were told things about plants and animals on the way. We got to the top and learned how the plates formed the island. The two plates' edges smashed the Farllon plate under the surface, but the top of the plate was scraped. The excess material emerged from the ocean. We created this effectwith oreos. Then we ate the oreos and went down

Logan

While snorkeling, I saw a lot of fish like Garabaldi, leopard sharks, and bat rays.  The Garabaldi's are so pretty.  The bat rays are creepy, and the leopard sharks look like loepards.

Harshita

I love CIMI because the best.  I wish this is what school was like every day.

On the climbing wall Max Lee and I were partying so hard. On the rock wall we had races and bets on who could climb the hardest wall. We also went snorkeling, we saw tons of marine life. the one thing that is very strange is that the happy strap does not make  that happy :(. i got no sleep for two days but i still have the ability to make bad jokes and party every day
